Something New!

After finishing my last piece and taking some time to recharge, I’m starting a new artwork that holds deep personal meaning. My creative journey often ebbs and flows, and sometimes stepping back allows me to find fresh inspiration. This new piece is a tribute to my mom’s beloved cat, Spock, who recently passed away after being tragically struck by a car. His loss has been deeply felt by my family, especially my mom.

Spock was truly one-of-a-kind. He had a signature stern, almost unimpressed expression—hence his name, inspired by the Star Trek character. He embodied that complex blend of affection and aloofness that many cats share. One moment, he’d be your best friend, and the next, he’d surprise you with a nip or swat, as if to remind you of his independence. Beyond his personality, Spock was an exceptional hunter, always on patrol, scaling trees and even houses with ease. He had a habit of leaving 'gifts' on the doorstep, much to my mom's delight (or dismay).

This piece will aim to capture not only his unique spirit but also his life's many adventures. I’m working to incorporate elements that reflect his personality—his sharpness, his love of the outdoors, and his ever-present air of indifference. My goal is to create something timeless for my mom to cherish, but also to make the piece adaptable for others who might want to memorialize a pet with a similar temperament.

I’ll be sharing progress as I go, and while I’m not sure how long it will take, I’m excited to pour my heart into this project. I may even share more in-depth updates on YouTube along the way. Thank you for following along on this journey as I strive to honor Spock’s life in a way that does him justice.

Finished Work - About Time!

After a brief hiatus from my creative pursuits, I’m excited to return with a new piece from my ongoing series of mushroom-themed artworks. This work is deeply influenced by current events and societal trends, blending nostalgic elements with modern technology to reflect on how these influences shape my worldview.

At the center of the piece, the mushroom head wears a futuristic visor, which merges the silhouette of the Apple Vision Pro headset with elements from Geordi La Forge’s visor in Star Trek and the iconic yellow of Cyclops’ headgear from X-Men comics. The cables running from the visor suggest that this device is plugged in, symbolizing the pervasive flow of information and media in our daily lives.

The visor represents how we are constantly bombarded by media through various channels—from smartphones to augmented reality devices like the Apple Vision Pro. Much like Geordi La Forge’s visor allowed him to perceive the world in unique detail, these modern devices offer access to a heightened reality, revealing truths that are often overlooked. Yet, like Cyclops' destructive optic blasts, this vision can be a double-edged sword—capable of both enlightenment and harm.

If you look closely, the mushroom head’s "brain" is visible, intertwined with wires and cables, which connect to a power facility in the background. This structure is a representation of the Tufts Cove Power Generation Facility, a prominent landmark in my home province. The facility serves as a metaphor for the way our minds, like energy, are manipulated and controlled by societal forces.

At the base of the piece, you’ll notice Japanese beetles, a local pest that has recently wreaked havoc on our environment. I included these beetles to symbolize the insidious nature of political and social media manipulations, much like the infestation they represent—unseen at first but ultimately destructive.

The tendrils and cables woven throughout the piece are a recurring motif in my work. I find satisfaction in giving these elements movement and life, using color and form to convey their dynamism. Though I continue to refine my technique, I’m proud of the progress I’ve made over the years and look forward to evolving further.

Thank you for taking the time to engage with my art. Prints of this piece will soon be available on my Society6 store, and I welcome your thoughts and feedback.
