After finishing my last piece and taking some time to recharge, I’m starting a new artwork that holds deep personal meaning. My creative journey often ebbs and flows, and sometimes stepping back allows me to find fresh inspiration. This new piece is a tribute to my mom’s beloved cat, Spock, who recently passed away after being tragically struck by a car. His loss has been deeply felt by my family, especially my mom.
Spock was truly one-of-a-kind. He had a signature stern, almost unimpressed expression—hence his name, inspired by the Star Trek character. He embodied that complex blend of affection and aloofness that many cats share. One moment, he’d be your best friend, and the next, he’d surprise you with a nip or swat, as if to remind you of his independence. Beyond his personality, Spock was an exceptional hunter, always on patrol, scaling trees and even houses with ease. He had a habit of leaving 'gifts' on the doorstep, much to my mom's delight (or dismay).
This piece will aim to capture not only his unique spirit but also his life's many adventures. I’m working to incorporate elements that reflect his personality—his sharpness, his love of the outdoors, and his ever-present air of indifference. My goal is to create something timeless for my mom to cherish, but also to make the piece adaptable for others who might want to memorialize a pet with a similar temperament.
I’ll be sharing progress as I go, and while I’m not sure how long it will take, I’m excited to pour my heart into this project. I may even share more in-depth updates on YouTube along the way. Thank you for following along on this journey as I strive to honor Spock’s life in a way that does him justice.
